A charge controller or regulator prevents overcharging by limiting the current flowing into the batteries. The key to extending battery life in a solar system is to protect  batteries from a complete discharge / overcharge. A charge controller is a power system component whose functions include regulation of solar charge current and in some cases to provide low battery protection.

Features :
  • Reliable all solid-state circuitry, no power hungry relays to burn out.
  • Temperature compensated, adjusts charging voltage with temperature.
  • Charging method: Analog Pulse Width Modulation (APWM).
  • Radio quiet, designed to work with radio systems.
  • The efficient design works with small and medium sized battery/solar panel combinations.
  • Built-in fuse for protection from excessive load and solar charging currents.
  • The load and battery circuits have a common negative ground.
  • The application of reverse battery polarity blows the fuse, the rest of the circuitry is protected.
  • Will work with all rechargeable battery types: wet or gell cell lead acid, NiCd, and NiMH.
  • Simple 6 screw connector will accept up to 14 gauge wires for attaching a battery, load and a PV panel.
 
Controls and Indicators :
  • Load On-Off Switch: spring loaded momentary on, momentary off, can be remote from board.
  • High intensity Red/Green LED for charge controller Charge/Float indication.
  • Twin high intensity White LEDs for Load-Power indication and local area lighting.
  • High intensity Amber LED for Low-Voltage indication, lights at 0.6V above the LVD setpoint.
  • Charge controller float voltage adjustment pot.
  • Low voltage disconnect setpoint pot.
  • Equalize terminals provided, bridge during periodic maintenance overcharging
